About us
We draw small buildings. A casting workshop makes them.
Ulmarqen makes nine tabletop sculptures in three families: arches, stairs, and towers and columns. Each is a single casting of mineral composite with the colour mixed right through it, sanded by hand and sealed, and sized for a shelf, a mantelpiece or a desk.
Why architecture
The shapes are the ones that make a building readable from across a street: a round opening in a wall, a flight of steps, a row of columns, a tower with slits for windows. Take away the doors, the signs and the people, shrink them to 15 to 30 cm, and they turn into objects you can arrange.
We keep them plain on purpose. No faces, no figures, no gilding and no fake patina. The only decoration is the geometry, and the only colour is the one cast into the material.
Who makes them
We do not own a casting workshop. We draw every piece as a measured elevation, and a contract workshop makes the master, the silicone moulds and the castings to those drawings. We say so because it matters when you are deciding who to buy from: the designs, the choice of material and the responsibility for what arrives at your door are ours.
Because each piece is sanded by hand after casting, two of the same design are close but not identical. Colour can also shift slightly from one batch of castings to the next. If you want two matching pieces, order them together.
What we will not claim
- That the pieces are carved stone. They are cast mineral composite, lighter than stone and warmer to the touch.
- That they are one of a kind. They are made in small batches from the same moulds.
- That they can live outdoors. They are for indoor rooms only.
